Coventry
Coventry, the city famous for Lady Godiva and pioneering the motoring industry, lies in the historic county of Warwickshire, deep in the Heart of England, surrounded by stunning countryside with quaint market towns. Coventry is the centre of the region’s growing excitement in the run-up to the Olympic Games in 2012.
Coventry and the Olympics
The Ricoh Arena, to be re-named for 2012 the City of Coventry Stadium, will host the preliminary stages of the men's football, as well as the women's quarter final and bronze medal decider. Ticket prices will range from £20 to £60. The University of Warwick will offer training facilities for any of the teams that take part at the stadium.
During the Games, local interest will centre on the Live Site – this is one of the locations with giant TV screens relaying Olympic events, BBC News and local information.
Coventry is also enthusiastic about the Cultural Olympiad, a series of projects to create new works of art across the UK. As the West Midlands project, Coventry icon Lady Godiva will be recreated as a gigantic human puppet and lead a cast of thousands in a spectacular processional performance, before making her epic journey to London. It will be driven by 50 people on cyclists.
